Second Century Campaign

Child Saving Institute Mary Holland Campus for Children and Youth

Second Century Brick Campaign

Child Saving Institute (CSI) has made a bold move by deciding to expand and renovate its main building at 4545 Dodge Street, Omaha, Nebraska. For 115 years, CSI has helped build a secure future for thousands of children one child at a time. Today many of those children are productive, contributing adults living all over the United States. You have been an active partner with CSI in developing those opportunities. Now is the time to upgrade the main facility to allow the agency to better minister to the needs of abused and neglected children and youth in our care. The new state-of-the-art facility will house the Children’s Crisis Center (12 children ages 0 to 18), Developmental and Therapeutic Childcare (125 children ages 0 to 5), adoption, foster care, therapeutic programs, administration and support services including finance, human resources and development.

During the last year, CSI conducted a “quiet” capital campaign to raise $11.2 million. It is time to initiate the “sponsor a brick” campaign. In the Fall of 2005, the original orphanage, property of the University of Nebraska Medical Center since the late 1960’s, was demolished to make space for a new building. The Medical Center kindly saved 200 of the old orphanage bricks for CSI to integrate into the interior design of the new building. Because the bricks are so fragile, they will be sealed and incorporated into the floor area preserving a “piece” of CSI’s history and providing a foundation for a nine foot sculpture representing a family. With your support, together, we are building a solid foundation for children today and tomorrow.

Bricks may be sponsored for $1,000 each.
Brick sponsors’ names will be engraved on the sculpture pedestal.

The Child Saving Institute Second Century Campaign Cabinet and Board of Directors determined, following careful analysis, to develop a campus of hope for children and families at the current 45th and Dodge Street address. The Campaign Cabinet and Board set an overall fundraising goal of $11.2 million dollars.

The Campaign Cabinet will raise $8.7 million dollars to expand and renovate the existing building and to purchase adjacent properties to be used for parking, playground space and future growth. The campaign costs will be included in the overall campaign goal and monitored carefully by the Campaign Cabinet. Current development staff is being utilized to support the campaign in lieu of outside counsel or consultants. The cabinet, board, and the agency President and CEO will monitor the campaign budget and timeline.

RDG Planning & Design architectural firm has been retained by the CSI Board of Directors to design the space necessary to adequately serve children and families in existing programs and to accommodate new programs for the next ten years. RDG is responsible for designing a 50,000 plus square foot building and the surrounding environs that are child and adult friendly, allow staff to work at top efficiency, and is the first exciting visual for the revitalized mid-town area. Meyers Carlisle Leapley is the general contractor on the project.

Concurrently, the Second Century Campaign Cabinet will raise an additional $2 million dollars to establish an endowment fund to enable Child Saving Institute to continue to provide a safe haven for children and families throughout prosperous and lean times. The Cabinet is committed to establishing Child Saving Institute as the child and adolescent centered organization families, schools, churches, medical personnel, community leaders and donors refer to and know they can depend upon to always place the well-being and safety of children first.
