Infant Adoption

So you want to adopt...

You have already taken the first step by beginning to seek information and get your questions answered. Child Saving Institute hopes this website will be helpful to you in beginning your journey toward adoption. Following is an explanation of the various steps in the adoption process.

Informational Meetings

Informational meetings provide you with essential information regarding adoption as a “journey,” and how CSI might be able to help you in attaining this goal.

Decision Time

After learning more about the agency’s adoption services, you will have an important decision to make. If you are comfortable with CSI’s adoption process and philosophy, you are welcome to join a small, preliminary waiting list.

Group Meeting

The Group Meeting is two days of interaction with CSI staff and other prospective adoptive families, focusing on adoptive parenting and allowing interaction with panels of birth parents, adoptees, and experienced adoptive parents.

Home Study

Once you have attended the Group Meeting, CSI will gather information from several sources, and will begin home study visits where a member of CSI’s Adoption Services staff will continue to gather information as well as educate and prepare you for a prospective placement.

Placement

Families receive placements through the adoption services any time after being approved and selected by a birth family.

Post-Placement Supervision

In compliance with Nebraska law and agency policy, your adoption specialist will meet with your family a minimum of three times following the placement. After the child has lived in your home for 180 days, you can begin preparation for adoption finalization.

Therapeutic Support

Because adoption can be emotionally charged for many individuals, CSI provides professional counselors for families seeking support or guidance through this time.

Adoptive Family Club

Adoptive families who have received a placement or who are waiting for a child are welcome to attend monthly educational and support meetings to learn more about adoption and also to meet other adoptive families.

Fees

Adoption fees are based on a sliding fee scale determined by your household gross annual income. Fees are divided into five separate payments and are due at the time each service is provided:

  1. Adoption Application and Group Meeting
  2. Adoption Home Study
  3. Adoption Preparation Services
  4. Placement Services
  5. Post Placement Services

We hope we have addressed some of the questions you may have regarding CSI’s adoption services. If you have further questions or would like to schedule an informational meeting, please contact CSI at (402) 553-6000.
